Work Experience course
Work experience is a four (4) credit elective course. This course requires the completion of an Application Form.
During grades 10 through 12, students are placed with local employers in positions that align with their interests and future career goals.
Work assignments are upaid positions from 10 - 100 hours in duration, and can take place during and after school hours.
The community becomes the classroom where students gain experience in the workplace and are provided with a frame of reference to review or revise their career goals.Through employer assessment, students receive valuable feedback about their employability skills and technical skills related to specific occupations. Employers are responsible for submitting an evaluation for the student's performance. Employability skills are generic skills that all students need to make a successful transition to the workplace and complement the technical skills. The Conference Baord of Canada organizes these skills into three categories: Fundamental skills, Personal Management skills, and Teamwork skills.
Work experience is comprised of pre-placement classroom assignments, 100 hours worksite placement and post placement assignments. (The 100 hours in an unpaid position can be completed with more than one employer.)
