Wired 4 Success (for grade 12 students)
Wired 4 Success is a North Shore youth employment program designed specifically for youth, 16 to 30 years of age, with barriers to employment. This program is well-suited for youth who lack work experience or employment skills and face barriers to employment including but not limited to mental health, disadvantaged background, or lack of education/training.
Wired 4 Success offers a 4 week group training program plus a 8-9 week work experience to help youth develop valuable employment and life skills. The next intake starts on July 4, 2022. Youth are paid to participate based on minimum wage. The program is designed to help youth develop the skills and tools needed to find work, return to school, or a combination of both.
To qualify for this program, the following criteria must be met:
• Canadian Citizen or legally entitled to work in Canada
• Must be 16 to 30 years old

RCMP National Youth Advisory Committee
The RCMP National Youth Advisory Committee (NYAC) helps shape how the RCMP supports young persons. It brings together up to 125 youth between the ages of 13 and 21 from all over Canada to discuss important issues that they face in their respective communities. The NYAC provides valuable input to RCMP policies, programs and strategies.
HOW IT WORKS
The NYAC is composed of young Canadian residents (ages 13 to 21) from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Members meet on a moderated, private online forum to discuss youth trends, RCMP programs, as well as youth crime and victimization issues This commitment requires approximately two to four online hours per month, from October to June.
HOW TO APPLY
Students would need to request an application by emailing "[email protected]". Applications must be received by September 12, 2022. Those who apply by July 31 will be considered as part of the first selection round. Please see the attached files for more details.

Camp Ignite program for gr 11 & 12 girls- August 4-7, 2022
Camp Ignite is traditionally a four-day overnight camp that educates and inspires young women to follow their dreams. We aim to show our campers a future of limitless opportunities and demonstrate that anything is possible. The camp is open to girls in grades 11-12 (ages 15-18 ) living in British Columbia. Our camp offers an introduction to the exciting world of firefighting. As well, each participant will learn about fitness, nutrition, health and teamwork.

2022 Youthtosea program - deadline: april 24, 2022
YouthToSea is designed to offer youth (15-18 years old) in the Lower Mainland an opportunity to build their personal leadership, problem-solving and life skills. Youth in the program will participate in outdoor excursions, skills building workshops, and create their own ocean service project. YouthToSea 2022 will run from May 2022 – October 2022 and is supported by the Government of Canada through the Canada Service Corps initiative. All training, certifications, and retreats are fully funded, and there are no costs for participants.

Filming the future, 12 - 4 pm on March 14-18, 2022
A free 5-day filmmaking workshop for youth in grades 7 to 12, presented by the North Vancouver City Library in partnership with The Cinematheque.
Create an original short film from start to finish with the support of experienced professionals! In small crews, participants will be guided through the complete filmmaking process, from scripting to shooting to editing. Inspired by the theme “The Future,” participants will have the option of adapting one of the winning scripts created for the fall Teen Screenwriting Contest or creating their own original film concept.

Camp Ignite team is very excited to announce that the Camp Ignite’s Mentorship Program will continue for its 11th year in this coming August 2021. In anticipation of loosened restrictions, the event has been planned for a single day-camp on August 14th, 2021, with enhanced safety measures and COVID-19 protocols in place. Due to the COVID restrictions, Grade 12 applicants are given the priority to attend. Grade 11 students are also welcome to apply, as the limitations may loosen as the summer progresses, enabling more spaces to become available. Salish Sea Science Program - APRIL 24 - 26, 2020
Are you a passionate youth committed to the conservation of aquatic life? If so, we have an opportunity for you to join us on Hornby Island at the Tribune Bay Outdoor Education Centre for the 3-day/2-night Salish Sea Science Program!
- Participating youth (30) will learn about the seven ocean literacy principles, the history of the area and traditional knowledge through outdoor activities.
- Students will then work in teams to develop an online learning resource to be uploaded to Ocean Wise’s online learning environment.
- The resources will be a reflection of their experience at the Salish Sea program, and will provide teachers with a tool to guide their class through the fundamentals of ocean literacy.
- To fully engage youth in ocean leadership, participants will challenge themselves in a ropes course, explore the coast in kayaks (weather permitting) and discover intertidal creatures while tide pooling.

Welding career workshop at BCIT - February 26, 2020
The CWB Welding Foundation (https://www.cwbweldingfoundation.org/) is planning an event to promote welding careers to students. The event will take place at BCIT Burnaby Campus from approximately 10:00 am - 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 26, 2020. The event will cover:
- Career opportunities in welding industry
- Presentation by former welding students who are now working in the industry as welders, inspector, supervisors, etc.
- Foundation programs in support of schools
- Welding simulator competitions

Skills Canada BC 2020 provincial competition - April 15, 2020
Skills Canada BC 2020 Provincial Competition will be held on April 15, 2020 at the Tradex in Abbotsford, BC. More than 600 competitors in 58 competition areas will compete in fields as diverse as: aerospace, automotive, 3D Animation, baking, welding, robotics — and much more!
Students from Grades 6 – 12 as well as Post-Secondary students will compete amid an audience comprised of 5,000+ middle and high school students, parents, career educators, industry leaders, technical experts, sponsors, employers, labour organizations and government who attend this annual event.
Skills Canada BC provides opportunities for thousands of students and parents to watch competitors in action, participate in Try-a-Trade activities, visit the Pathways to Careers Showcase or participate in the Women in Trades and Technology Conference.

North Vancouver School District is hosting a career fair on January 27, 2020 to provide students and their parents with information on the many careers in the trades and technology fields. Registration and more information is available online HERE.
Future Science Leaders - Deadline: May 31, 2019
Future Science Leaders is a program designed for grade 10 and 11 students who enjoy science and technology. Students attend weekly meetings after school where they learn essential skills, meet top experts and innovators and apply their new knowledge. The program is delivered after school hours and runs from September 2019 to May 2020. Students can choose to take the program at either the Vancouver or Surrey location.
Future Science Leaders is a multi-year program. Students enter in the Discover Year (grades 10 and 11). The year is divided into six themes. The second year of the program, the Innovate Year, allows students to apply to either a Research or Engineering stream. There is a $500 cost for the program. However, bursaries are available. med Ed conference at lions gate hospital - April 13, 2019
Lions Gate Hospital Foundation's Youth Advisory Committee has organized an amazing Med Ed Conference for students on the North Shore that will feature talks from doctors and other health care professionals as well as a student panel of med students and residents. Each presentation will give insight into the process of becoming a health care professional through their personal journeys and will provide tips and tricks to get into med school as well as answer audience questions.
The conference is from 8 am -1 pm on Saturday, April 13th, 2019 at the HOpe Centre. Tickets are $25, with all proceeds benefiting Lions Gate Hospital Foundation to enhance patient care at Lions Gate Hospital. More information can be found: http://lghfoundation.com/community_events/meded/.

BCIT biotechnology Career awareness program spring 2019
The program is directed at Grade 10, 11 and 12 students with an interest in science and is built on a partnership between BCIT, Life Sciences BC, local biotechnology companies and participating school districts. Application deadline is Friday, March 22, 2019. Program fees are: $211.99 for NVSD students; $529.98 for international students.
The program consists of a series of integrated elements:
- A student application and selection process
- Laboratory workshops at BCIT
- Industry visit
Application and acceptance process for WORKSHOP B: APRIL 29 – MAY 3, 2019.
1. Applicant creates BCIT student number and INCLUDES NUMBER ON APPLICATION FORM (required field).
